Weekend trips in Sweden

Sometimes you just want to get away, right?

It doesn't have to be far. Just a comfortable place to sleep, some great food and a new experience.

Here are our favourite weekend getaways in Sweden!

Lidköping

Quintessential small-town beauty with gorgeous buildings, well-heeled inhabitants and a majestic river flowing through.

Therese Engström has created a calming, beautiful atmosphere in her gorgeous Villa Milsten, built in 1913 and meticulously renovated. The interiors and warm service makes you never want to leave.

✓ Good to know: Our favourite room is the Västra Rummet. (We have ended up here more than once after a late night at Mellbygatan.)

Whether you are looking for lunch, dinner or a good cocktail, Mellbygatans Restaurang will always deliver. Owners Samuel (behind the bar) and Emil (in the kitchen) offer a solid experience and a great vibe.

✓ Good to know: Ask Samuel for any cocktail or just let him surprise you.

The smoothly renovated bar at Lidköpings Stadshotell is a great spot bot for a pre-dinner drink and a night cap.

✓ Good to know: At weekends, "Stadt" turns into a night club, so we don't recommend it for sleeping.

What to do #1 ↑

The production of Rörstrand porcelain – the second oldest in Europe – moved to Lidköping in 1936. In the old factory area you now find shops, a Rörstrand/Iittala outlet, restaurants and the new Rörstrand Museum.

Next to Lidköping, along the lake Vänern, lies Kinnekulle, a mountain with amazing views and lots of history. Check out the pretty village of Hällekis, Husaby Church and get a snack at Café På Klostret.

If the weather is hot, head out to Svalnäs and Sweden's most beautiful lake beach. Bring a picnic, some rosé and hammocks to hang between the trees along the sand. Stop at Mejeriet i Söne for some traditional fika!
