During these strange times, many of us see our stylist less than we would like. This means having to take care of our hair ourselves, to varying degrees of success. But don't lose hope! You can create beautiful, healthy hair at home that can even grow stronger and better than before. Here are my best hair care tips.
Let’s start with what not to do. Don’t try to cut your hair yourself! It almost never turns out the way you want and a bad cut can cause lasting problems. Leave it to grow until you can see a stylist and get a professional cut!
1. Cleanse it
It is always important to keep your hair clean and fresh. Use gentle formulas that purify your hair without stripping it of its natural oils, combining nourishing shampoos with a more detoxing one every two weeks. Don’t wash more often than you have to.
Try to only use styling products that you can feel get absorbed into the hair. Any product residue that you can feel on top of your hair will attract dirt and force you to shampoo more often. Styling products with too much residue can also make your scalp and forehead feel greasy.

2. Condition it
Even with gentle shampoos, most of us need a good conditioner to give our hair moisture, softness and flexibility. If your hair is thin, use a light-weight formula that doesn’t weigh it down. If you have thicker or frizzier hair, find a product that easily penetrates into the hair strands. Then you can control the effect by how much you rinse out – with a good conditioner you can leave some product to get absorbed without any greasy feeling and strengthen the hair from within.

3. Hydrate it
Most hair types need extra hydrating, especially in winter when indoor heating and cold weather make our hair extra dry. There are several strengthening serums on the market that are easy to apply. These often also calm and nourish a dry, sensitive scalp.

4. Protect it
Any heat styling risks drying and damaging your hair, unless you use a good heat protection product. Check the reviews before you buy and make sure it protects up to 200°C. Even if you have good heat protection, set your tool to low/medium to avoid burning your hair.
Also, protect your hair when you sleep by gathering it up in a bun – and don’t shower just before you go to bed. Your hair is at its most fragile when it is wet, and some of us are less graceful when we sleep.
